Under Medicare, speech therapy sessions are eligible for a rebate when they are part of a Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDM), also known as an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan. This plan is designed for children and individuals with chronic medical conditions requiring multidisciplinary care. To qualify, a General Practitioner (GP) must determine that speech therapy is necessary for managing or treating a chronic condition. Under the CDM plan, the client can claim a rebate for up to five allied health services, including speech therapy, per calendar year. The rebate amount is fixed by Medicare for each session, which may not cover the full cost of the session, leaving a gap payment to be covered by the patient.
