FAQ's

Some of the general frequently asked questions.

Do I need a referral to see a Psychologist?

No, however, to receive Medicare rebates, you will need a mental health care plan from your GP (or a psychiatrist or paediatrician). Please consult with your GP who can determine if you meet the requirements. Some clients choose to see a psychologist privately without a GP referral and consultation fees will be paid by clients.

How many sessions will Medicare rebate cover?

If you are referred under a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), you are entitled to claim Medicare Rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. The following explains the stages of a MHCP:

Stage 1: 6 sessions (The client attends 6 psychology sessions. This involves the initial and subsequent sessions which guide treatment approach/ goals/plan and how often the remaining sessions will be organised)

After session 6, the psychologist is required to send a progress report to your GP, at which time your GP will review the report and you may be referred for a further 4 sessions.

Stage 2 (Review): 4 sessions (client will continue to see the psychologist for a further 4 sessions).

Once the client completes their total 10 sessions, the psychologist sends a report to the GP, if needed. The client then will meet with their GP who may approve and refer for a further 10 sessions.

How do I receive my Medicare rebate?

For your convenience we can process your Medicare claim (via HICAPS) on the day of your consultation. Clients are responsible for updating their banking details with Medicare.

What are the session fees?

The consultation fee is $265 per session (50+ minutes) with a Clinical Psychologist and $220 with General Psychologist. Payment is required on the day of the appointment and can be made by cash, Eftpos, or credit cards.

Medicare currently pays $141.85 per clinical psychology session and $96.65 so the gap will be covered by clients.

Please refer to the table of fees on the website.

Can I claim Medicare rebate if I have Private Health Cover or DVA?

Health fund rebates for registered psychological services are provided by most health funds under their ancillary/extra options. These rebates vary depending on your health fund, and your level of cover. Please discuss this with your health fund before booking for further details.

Normally there is no need for a referral to claim for private health psychology services.

Our psychologists are registered with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA). Please check with DVA before booking an appointment with one of our psychologists.  You will need a referral from an approved practitioner. Please refer to DVA website for further information:  https://www.dva.gov.au/

Do you provide Cognitive assessments for ADHD or ASD?

Yes– Cognitive Assessments and Reports usually require 4-8 hours ($200 per hour) including administering measures, obtaining collateral information, and providing brief report writing. However, writing a comprehensive report would incur additional fee between $750-$1000. Please be prepared as this fee can vary dependent on the assessments required and the tasks involved. The psychologist will inform you of the cost required in advance.

PLEASE NOTE MEDICARE REBATE DOES NOT COVER PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENTS, HOWEVER CLIENTS MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR MEDICARE REBATE FOR INITIAL AND FEEDBACK SESSION AFTER ASSESSMENT IS COMPLETED.
